Amy Mei

One of my closest friends in college, Jenny, had her second child two days ago, August 28th. They named her Amy. And her middle name is Mei. Isn't that beautiful? I really like that name. That day Jenny texted me and said I could visit her in the hospital if I wanted to. Of course that's a no brainer. I went that evening.

When I arrived, Amy was sound asleep. I got to hold her for a little bit. There's something very special about holding a newborn. It was a great experience. Caleb was not able to come with me, but I'm sure he will see her soon.

Jenny is doing just fine and she will probably go home from the hospital in a day or two. Randy (Jenny's husband) has two weeks off from work. I had no idea there was such a thing as Paternity leave. I'll have to keep that in mind for the future.

Jenga FHE

So Caleb and I always try to have family home evening every monday night. We've been pretty good about doing it. We'll always have a spiritual lesson and an activity. One night we played Jenga. All I can say is that it got very tense.

It got so high...

So that was our competitive Jenga game. Good times.
Jenga is highly recommended when you have time to play. :)

maki-zushi

So a couple weeks back we invited one of Caleb's friends, Ryan, and his girlfriend over for dinner. Nicole (the girlfriend) served a mission in Japan and so we decided to have Chinese and Japanese food. For the Chinese food, we made pot stickers, which is a no brainer for us. However, for Japanese food, we decided to make sushi. Maki-zushi is the actual Japanese term for the seaweed rolls filled with rice and other things. Nigiri-zushi is for the kind of sushi that is a lump of rice with raw fish on top. Sushi is my (Jessica) all-time favorite food. Honestly, I could eat sushi everyday.

Eating is one thing, but making it was a completely different experience. I've made sushi before at home with my dad, but this time there was no dad. So I went online and I found this awesome website: www.sushirecipes.org

We used the recipe for the sushi rice and it came out amazing! We are not great at rolling sushi, as you can tell from the photos, but it tasted great. In our sushi rolls we had artificial crab, cucumber, carrots, spicy tuna (cooked), and eggs. We didn't always put all of these ingredients, but we made different kinds. It was a really great night.
